FAQ

Frequently asked questions:

Is Bloodstone Dale, or The Knights of Bloodstone a micronation?
No. Bloodstone Dale is a real place located inside the village of Durham, in Pictou County, in Nova Scotia. Nova Scotia was once known as Estotilanda by the Knights Templar.
Are you in the SCA?
No. Though some members may be, we simply maintain the traditions of knights. We do however recognise the efforts of the SCA in preserving so many aspects of ancient culture. We encourage membership in all historical societys.
Are you affiliated with the Masons, Templars, or DeMolay?
Although not affiliated, some members may have a cross membership with one or more of these organizations. We encourage cross membership into honourable societys. However we do not allow cross membership into organizations that promote any kind of hate or promote discrimination towards others. Charity is the motivation of our Order.
Are you a political group?
No. We have no official political motivation. We may take a stand on certain issues but do not support any side in politics.
Do you hold events?
Yes. from time to time we do.
Can a woman be a Knight?
Yes. they are referred to as Dames.
Is your Order recognized by the Government or the Queen?
It is not good candor to seek recognition. If you have to ask to use your title then chances are you don't deserve it. We do not question the validity of other orders, and support the use of our own ranking system within our organization.
Non nobis, Domine, non nobis, sed nomini Tuo da gloriam.
How big is Bloodstone Dale?
Bloodstone Dale is one of several dales, it specifically is currently 4 and a half acres.
How many Knights/Dames are there?
Thats a difficult question. Years ago we would keep a cencus and a log of charitable acts. However because of the sensitive nature of some of the logs ie. who was in need of charity and thier personal circumstances, it was decided that rather than have that info inappropriately made public, the logs were destroyed to protect the names of the needy. Now records of charitable acts reported every month are noted so that certain members will be notably in good standing. Members wanting to be represented in the council must  show and prove thier deeds before the council.  Membership since 1989 has risen and fallen, as high as 200 and as low as 3. We find that the membership recently hovers around 50-60 members.
But.. like the "pass it forward" craze of the mid 90's the concept of the Knights minimum of one charitable act often sets ablaze fluxuations in membership exponentialy.
Do you make money? How do you opperate without funds?
Divine providence. The Knights of Bloodstone do not gather funds or dues. they may collectively donate to a cause, but the Knights as a body have no money, they act on the goodness they find within themselves. Too often institutions in our society are based soley on the funds they generate. We do not use funding yet our members ALL perform at least one act of charity per month and many perform many many more.
Is it true that so and so.....
You will not be able to get an answer to any question about a knightly deed. this is to protect the innocent and prevent the knights from becoming boastful. We are unseen helpers. We will never divulge personal information about members who save lives, whos lives were saved, who donates to whom or who recieves charitable donations unless it contians information useful to law enforcement or places a member in harms way, or if it interferes with or threatens the security of any free and democratic nation or constitutional monarchy or republic.
What is the Knights of Bloodstones opinion on the state of the world?
Deplorable.
How do you know what a true order of knighthood is?
You shall know the tree by the fruit it bears. The Knights of Bloodstone encourage acts of charity, and of valour and put down nobodys organization so long as it strives for good.
What is the official uniform of the Order?
We used to have multiple colours to denote different social standings within our organization. Now our official uniform is a plain grey mantle with the Bloodstone cross emblazoned on the back. Grey was chosen to reflect the colour of Bloodstone Keep.
What is the Bloodstone Cross or Cercelee Cross?
This is an ancient Christian symbol for Faith. It is not to be confused with a cross moline in which the ends of the cross are curved and pointed. The cross moline represents rams horns and is a templar symbol for sacrifice. The Cercelee has rounded ends and represents the fountain of faith. Both are ancient symbols.
What is the stance on other religions?
Offically any person of any religion may be a member of the order. The order has cast a decision that there is only one God and therefore all men regardless of belief must have the same one, regardless of what they call God. Therefore we will treat all equally. We are not a religiious organization, but we feel that this addresses the issue quite well.
What is your stance on Race?
All people are created equally, all have the potential for good. We detest discrimination.
